A historic shrine beyond the forest.
Walk through the forest approach to the red gate and worship areas. Shrine ceremonies and special exhibitions have their own access conditions. Tadasu no Mori is the same forest featured in the neighboring Place, rather than an additional distant destination.
The story behind this place
Shimogamo means the lower Kamo shrine, distinguishing it from Kamigamo farther north. Its formal name is Kamo Mioya Shrine, and it honors Kamo Taketsunumi and his daughter Tamayorihime. The wooded approach connects these old local traditions with the Kyoto visitors know today.
