Temple gardens and a wooded valley.

The story behind this place
Its patron, the court official Kujo Michiie, wanted a great temple inspired by Nara’s Todaiji and Kofukuji. The name combines To from Todaiji with Fuku from Kofukuji. That small detail connects a Kyoto temple with two older centres of Buddhism in Nara.
