A pond garden framed by the study.
Sit beside the study and look across the pond garden, then notice the stone lanterns and statues. This is Rengeji in Kamitakano, Sakyo Ward, near Yase; it is not the similarly named temple in Ukyo Ward.
The story behind this place
Rengeji was re-established here in the early Edo period by Imaeda Chikayoshi, a senior retainer of the Maeda family. The pond garden and distinctive stone lanterns give this small temple its character. Its Kamitakano location distinguishes it from Kyoto’s other Rengeji.
