Gardens, history and bamboo.
Visit the temple gardens associated with Nene, the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Special evening openings are seasonal and require a separate calendar check.
The story behind this place
Nene founded Kodaiji in 1606 to commemorate her husband, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a ruler who helped unify Japan. She is also known by the Buddhist name Kodai-in. The temple’s history adds a personal story of remembrance to its gardens and decorative art.
