River views and bamboo paths.
Use the river and Togetsukyo Bridge as your orientation point, then choose a bamboo path or temple garden. The district is extensive: leave time rather than trying to see every temple.
The story behind this place
Togetsukyo, the district’s landmark bridge, means “moon-crossing bridge.” A traditional story attributes the name to Emperor Kameyama, who compared the movement of the moon to a crossing. The poetic name invites you to see the river landscape as more than a photograph.
