Kyoto’s Gion Matsuri fills July with shrine rituals and float events. The main float processions are traditionally July 17 and 24. The photograph shows the 2017 procession; check the organizer for the year you travel.

Candle lights transform Nara Park and nearby areas into an evening walk. In 2026 the festival ran August 5–14, with lighting from 19:00 to 21:30; dates and participating areas for the next edition must be checked with the organizer.
