The story behind this place
Tenjin refers to Sugawara no Michizane, a ninth-century scholar and statesman later worshipped as a deity of learning. This festival honours him at Osaka Tenmangu. Its procession on boats reflects the importance of rivers to Osaka’s life and commerce.
