Meet Osaka’s retro side.
Shinsekai brings together a distinctive streetscape, casual restaurants and the landmark Tsutenkaku tower. Explore the main streets and smaller public backstreets on foot, or browse guided experiences for a closer look at its food and history.
The story behind this place
Shinsekai means “new world,” although the area now feels wonderfully retro. Its development followed a major national exhibition held nearby in 1903. The district’s entertainment venues and landmark tower expressed the excitement of a city imagining its modern future.
