Shitennoji.
The outer grounds and the ticketed temple areas have different access arrangements. A daytime visit gives more choice for entering the central precinct and garden.
The story behind this place
Prince Shotoku, an early supporter of Buddhism in Japan, founded this temple in 593. Its name refers to four heavenly guardians in Buddhist belief. Temple tradition links the foundation to a vow he made during a struggle over Buddhism’s acceptance.
