A hillside temple above the valley.
Follow the approach and covered stairway to the main hall. Numerous steps make this a more demanding stop; seasonal flowers and ceremonies change the pace.
The story behind this place
Hasedera is a major stop on the Saigoku pilgrimage, a journey linking 33 temples in western Japan. Its principal figure is an eleven-faced Kannon, associated with compassion in Buddhist belief. For many visitors, the long climb is part of a devotional journey rather than sightseeing alone.
