Nishiki Market
Browse food shops and choose a few things to try. Eat inside the shop or in its designated space, rather than while walking. Individual shop hours and closing days vary.
Explore this Place →Nishiki Market, Teramachi Kyogoku and Shinkyogoku sit close together, but offer different visits. See their positions on the map, then use a simple loop from Kyoto-kawaramachi Station.

Coloured lines mark the approximate shopping-street sections. The dashed line illustrates the walking order, not surveyed pavement or live navigation. Use the directions links for your exact route.
Open the area in Google Maps ↗Walk west along Shijo-dori, then head north toward the Takakura-side western end of Nishiki Market. Enter the market and browse east toward Teramachi. Use the walking link to choose the station exit and crossings that suit you.
Walking directions ↗At the market’s eastern end, you meet Teramachi. Turn left and walk north through the covered Teramachi arcade toward Sanjo. Nishiki Tenmangu is a separate shrine near the neighbouring Shinkyogoku side, not the market itself.
Walking directions ↗At Sanjo-dori, take the short connection east to Shinkyogoku, then turn south into its arcade. Teramachi is the western street; Shinkyogoku is the eastern one. Check the arcade signs at the junction.
Walking directions ↗Continue south to Shijo-dori, then turn east toward the Shijo–Kawaramachi intersection and Kyoto-kawaramachi Station. This returns you to the starting area; a visit to Gion or the Kamo River is an optional extension.
Walking directions ↗For a food-focused visit, prioritise Nishiki while the shops you want are open. Eat in the space provided by the shop. Shop hours and temple or shrine access differ; allow extra time for browsing and crowds rather than treating this as a timed tour.

Teramachi Kyogoku is the covered shopping street between Shijo and Sanjo, immediately west of Shinkyogoku. Browse fashion, everyday goods, traditional specialist shops and cafés, or use a short section as part of a downtown walk. This Place covers the central shopping arcade, not the whole length of Teramachi-dori. It is also separate from Nishiki Market, which runs east–west nearby; use the street names on signs to keep your route clear.

Shinkyogoku is a covered shopping street running between Shijo and Sanjo, just east of Teramachi Kyogoku. Browse souvenirs, clothing and places for a snack, with temple and shrine entrances tucked among the shops. Nishiki Tenmangu is a distinct shrine stop near the southern part of the street; it is not Nishiki Market itself. Pick a section or combine a short stretch with neighbouring Teramachi instead of treating the two arcades as one street.
